Governors

The Board of Governors plays an active role in the life of the school and along with the head teacher is responsible for the strategic management and leadership of the school. The main roles are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the head teacher to account for educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it's money well spent

The Board of Governor's reconstitution in December 2013 has resulted in an enthusiastic and committed team bringing a range of skills and insights. Our governors are an important link between the school and the local community - they are all volunteers and made up of parents, staff, local authority and co-opted members from commerce, industry and the community.
The full Governing Board meets once a term and some of its responsibilities are delegated to the separate Children & Learning and Resources Committees.

Governors are encouraged to visit the school on a regular basis and are linked to specific monitoring areas in line with the School Development Plan, all with the aim of raising standards in school and shaping its future.
Governors regularly attend training. This provides a wider understanding of the changing expectations of their role and gives them the skills and insight to fulfuil these effectively.

The governors use the highly regarded authority clerking service and the Clerk to our Board of Governors is Ellie Jarrett.
