  2. Music

Music

Music at Althorpe and Keadby Primary is taught by a music specialist across Reception,  Key Stage One and Two.

We have our own school choir who meet weekly to develop their passion, skill and technique in singing.

We strongly believe in the importance of sharing music within the local community. We have established links with a local hospice and care homes where our choir share their progress.

Aims

Music Curriculum Intent

At Althorpe and Keadby Primary School we ensure that all of our children are given opportunities  to;

  •  Perform, read and write music
  •  Be taught to sing, perform and compose music
  •  Listen to and evaluate a range of musical styles

At Althorpe and Keadby Primary School the intention is that children gain a passion for music and enjoy participating in musical activities. Music lessons aim to introduce children to the many different instruments and technologies involved in creating music. With an awareness of a range of musical practices this will hopefully excite children to further explore either listening to music or learning an instrument.

Music is taught throughout the whole school every Tuesday by a specialist music teacher.

Lessons cover the national curriculum for music alongside Kodály methodology. Each lesson is divided into focus activities such as a game, singing or movement pieces and then the children learn about an element of music through repetition which is introduced when it has been heard in a musical context and introduced when it is known. The structure of the lesson therefore is to ‘Prepare Present Practice.’ (the 3 P’s)

KS2 singing practice happens each week

Private tuition lessons are provided in guitar and piano each week.

School participates in local music events annually.
